Shortly after becoming inmate no. P01135809, former U.S. President Donald J. Trump tweeted his own mug shot. Taken and released by Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia; the photo currently has 170.2M views on X (formerly known as Twitter). It is the first mug shot in history taken of an American President. Trump’s tweet represents his return to X after being banned by the social media platform in 2021. Facing 91 felony charges in total (across multiple cases), Trump was processed and released on a $200,000 bond in about 20 minutes. Before boarding his private jet, the leading GOP candidate stated, “This is a very sad day for America that should never happen.” Adding, “What has taken place here is a travesty of justice. We did nothing wrong. I did nothing wrong.”

Early on, Trump’s campaign team unabashedly confirmed that it plans to use the mug shot for fundraising efforts. After being released, Trump’s quickly began selling a range of merchandise featuring the historic mug shot: everything from T-shirts for $34 to a $25 coffee/tea mug. The 77-year-old’s booking at Fulton County Jail represents his fourth indictment.
